Confident Parenting
Effective Black Parenting
Los Niños Bien Educados
These extensive descriptions of CICC's award-winning trio of parenting skill-building
programs have been written for use by professionals in the mental health, health,
substance abuse, child welfare and educational fields.
The descriptions provide the degree of detail and background that is often expected when a
professional or his or her organization applies for government or foundation support to
bring these programs into their communities.
Indeed, the degree of detail that is made available here is a direct reflection of the
information that federal government funding agencies have requested of CICC as they
have included these programs as national models.
Of particular interest may be the sections where the evaluative studies of each program are
presented. Funding sources often are very interested in learning about the results of
studies that document the effectiveness of programs and services that they are considering
for support.
There have been several studies that have evaluated the effectiveness of each of the
programs, some of which were conducted through large government research and
demonstration grants and where special controls were used. Others were more modestly
funded and used only pre/post test designs.
In all instances, the studies focused on one of the programs at a time. However, because
all of these programs teach the same basic core of parenting skills (effective praise, mild
social disapproval, systematic ignoring, time out, and special incentive systems), it is
reasonable to assume that the results of studies on each individual program have direct
applicability and relevance to the impact of the other programs.
Each description ends with information on the costs of bringing the programs to a
community.
